Trailer text & visual notes
The world remembers the names. But what about the people standing one step away? At a frozen Iowa airport, Caitlin pours coffee for three musicians waiting for a flight. She wants to finish her shift. They want to get to tomorrow. In Cambridge, a young law student joins the defence of a notorious client. One private conversation will leave her wondering how much she really understands. And at a glittering London party, a bartender watches an extraordinary world from the sidelines. Forty stories. Famous lives glimpsed from the edges. Small encounters, uncomfortable secrets, and ordinary people caught in extraordinary company. In Wilton Morley's Bit Parts, the person you barely noticed may have the story you will never forget. Open the book. Step closer.

About the book
Forty short stories turn attention to the people who might otherwise remain at the edge of the scene. In Bit Parts, Wilton Morley begins with “The Airport Waitress,” an imagined encounter at Mason City airport before Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper board their final flight.
Caitlin, the waitress, has more immediate concerns than musical history: the cold outside, the lateness of the hour, a cat waiting at home and the hope of getting some sleep. The familiar names are seen through her working night, over coffee, burgers and conversation. That shift of attention gives the collection its title and its invitation: to step away from the spotlight and spend time with the people standing just beyond it.
